Biography

Amina Bhatti is a poet and spoken word artist, living in Nottingham, England.

Amina has been writing poetry for over a decade, with fluctuating styles and subject matter that has evolved with her personality and experience. Inspired by the works of authors and poets whom she'd read in her youth, she attempted to relay her experience of reality into words, writing her first published poem Life of an Orphan, aged 12.

Having grown up in the outskirts of Birmingham, Amina attended Sutton Coldfield Grammar School for Girls for the entirety of her secondary education. Her natural passion for writing was always supported by teachers and peers alike, reinforcing her courage and enthusiasm to showcase her work across various literary platforms.

Since moving to Nottingham in 2012, Amina has been a full time student at the University of Nottingham, reading Medicine. Despite a hectic schedule, she has been passionately involved in the local spoken word and poetry scene and was a member of the Mouthy Poets collective, before it's dissolution.

Nottingham, a UNESCO City of Literature, has proved to be a diverse hub of creative talent, and has allowed Amina the opportunity to develop and test her own poetry and performance skills. Beginning in the cosy corners of open mic nights and humble events at the university, Amina has since performed at various venues and events across the East Midlands; culminating in a headline poetry show at Sobar cafe in October 2016. 

Amina has since taken a step back from performance poetry in order to focus on her work as a doctor, but she has continued to work on other projects in her spare time. This includes regular snippets of writing on her Instagram, where she is a keen member of a thriving international poetry community; as well as her recent appointment as an Editor for Bymepoetry- a developing poetry platform for writers across the globe!
